It’s a pair of 40kg’s and they will be around if anyone wants to get their Freak On. Of course I’ll be there with you as we do something very basic….like the Clean and Press…..personally I am enjoying the gravitation to the Push-Presses ( Double Kettlebell, Single Kettlebell, Barbell)working towards the Push Jerk….for like the next year.
Going to look for a quality 10″ box for my own squat/pistol training once I find it (know where to look and besides I am a reknowned Internet Researcher)so I can find it that is not the point. The point is if you actually practice your squat with a 10″ box which I think is a Westside thing…although I have experienced it elsewhere…I want my own box now. Could design and let my friend who is so handy make it for me. He just made a shed out of organic recycled wood with a door, windows, shelves and insulation. A small area but expertly space planned, you don’t feel confined in the small space because it is so easy to reach everything.
Jason,………can you make me a 10″ box that is heavy duty enough to support my carcass +up to 500 lbs, at that point several decades from now I don’t think I will “need the box” but it will be a practice article I would not want to miss using.
Personally I am very “down” with the bodyweight thing, like working up to 188 consecutive push-ups while preparing to BV and ultimately perform as a member of The Summerall Guards 1085. How clearly I remember going out on the gallery as a sophomore and getting my weapon out for some exercise, suddenly Dave Reed (who was on the Guard and my mentor) said “Russell you can’t be doing that out here. He didn’t want to draw attention to me, he was trying to protect me a little, he also knew how badly I wanted this and hard much I had suffered through…willingly. When it was game time he took his turns attempting to whip me several times just to be fair and I could respect that, but it was not pure evil. The bottom line was I wanted it so bad, to be a Summerall Guard….I had told my Dad my knob year at Parents Day, “You are gong to see me out there marching likes those guys.” My father told me to shut my mouth because I did not have a clue as to what I was talking about.
I see a TRX and some rings that I can attach to my T.A.P.S Unit which would really help me work in gymnastics related exercises. Looking forward that to master some of these movements could be never to 8 years time of constant practice…..however gaining in this body control via strength training is so effective and efficient. Yes I will have the luxury soon of hinging my hips on the Dead-lift and Push-Press via barbell. 4-6 wks of what I want to do in terms of specific drills and lifting. Yeah I could be a minimalist, but I still have a few movements I want to experience. No intention of going really wide with the movements, I can deal the cards (programming) on the same yet slightly different theme. Thrilling to see people really getting into their kettlebell and “feeling it”.
It makes me happy to share some shortcuts (heavy redundant emphasis of the fundamentals) starting with approaching the weight and your initial posture/alignment.
Not all of them are “getting it instantly”, a heckuva lot of them are and the rest make visible quantifiable progression every time we practice. Very easy for me to smile and say “Well you just gained 16″ of ROM in 4 minutes…How do you feel about that ?” Could you envision where this extrapolates out to one month from now ?
Most cannot on a precise level but they have a clear understanding it is going to be significant, however one defines “significant”.
Described as being “very clear” with my direction and explaining a little of the “here’s why that is really important to your safety and strength increase” can gain you some credibility.
We have a guy who was like the player of the year as a Running Back, his idol is A. Peterson with the Vikings….I told him I was changing my period Lite bench work from 135 to 225 in order to see how I would stack up at the combine. Last week 225 week smoothing down and up 25 times, not a max and I mentally set a goal of working up to 40 reps. It will give me something to do while I work on my chin-ups and pull-ups.
All I know is I did know or have an idea of what my capabilities were/are and I did have the honor of performing as a member of the 1985 Summerall Guards. That kinda stuff rocks my world like catching an 8lb+ Largemouth Bass. Visit the campus, have a few toddies and watch the Summerall Guards perform. You will be so glad you did.
